QOP NEWS

Community’s Annual Independence Day Celebration Shines

On a beautifully sunny, if humid, Saturday, July 1, Quince Orchard Park residents turned out in force to celebrate patriotism and community spirit. After brief remarks by City Council Vice President Neil Harris and QOP Board President Troy Kennedy, who organized the event, the celebration kicked off with a community parade.

Led by Richard Willard and his Burberry-capped dog, Preston, in a royal blue convertible, the parade wound its way through the community, down Highland Ridge Avenue to Winter Walk Drive and back to the clubhouse. Kids rode bicycles, scooters and battery-powered vehicles dressed in red, white and blue streamers, ribbons and balloons while parents pushed the youngest in strollers. City Councilmembers Yvette Monroe, Michael Sesma and Robert Wu joined Harris to march in the parade.

Upon return to the clubhouse, kids enjoyed inflatables, face painting, glitter tattoos and mid-morning treats of red, white and blue snow cones and pink cotton candy provided by Andrew Ross’ Great Kids Events. Residents enjoyed grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers for lunch.

Trees Removed From Winter Walk

The City of Gaithersburg recently removed dying ash trees from Winter Walk Drive and throughout the Quince Orchard Park community. The trees were victims of the emerald ash borer, a jewel beetle native to northeastern Asia and invasive to North America. The city will replace the ash trees with another, sturdier species in the fall and winter.

Tennis Courts Color Coated

After a thorough pressure washing, the tennis courts on Winter Walk Drive and Swanton Lane were color coated this week. Players can look forward to refreshed courts!

Enjoy Movie Night at the Pool

The July 22 Movie Night at the Pool will screen Disney’s “Moana” (PG), the popular animated adventure comedy set in ancient Polynesia. Popcorn is provided, and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and non-alcoholic beverages.

National Night Out Planned

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Aug. 1. Quince Orchard Park plans another stellar National Night Out where residents can visit with law enforcement and city and county officials, and kids can learn and have fun with face painting and other activities. Stay tuned for more details.

QOP Residents Enjoy Discount at PGC

Quince Orchard Park residents receive a 20 percent discount at Potomac Garden Centers (PGC) North Potomac and Urbana locations (with limited exclusions). Just show your driver’s license to the PGC cashier. No coupons are needed.

MANAGEMENT MENTIONS

Feedback on Pool Welcome

If you have suggestions on how to make the QOP pool more comfortable and inviting, please let The Management Group Associates know as soon as possible. You can email Community Manager Ruchita Patel at rpatel@tmgainc.com. The management company would like to correct issues with the pool as they arise.

Trash and Recycling

Trash is collected on Tuesday and Friday and must be placed in lidded trash cans. If left for collection in bags only, trash is ripped open by animals and strewn throughout the community. Continued use of bags may result in fines.

Recycling is picked up on Fridays. Containers with lids are now available from the City of Gaithersburg. Please contact the city at 301.258.6370 to have a lidded bin delivered and the old one picked up.

Please remember that trash cans and recycle bins must be stored out of sight on non-pickup days.

The City of Gaithersburg offers bulk trash pickup (furniture, appliances, mattresses, etc.) on the first recycling day of the month. The next bulk trash pickup is Friday, Aug. 4. The City of Gaithersburg and Potomac Disposal (301.294.9700) both offer collection services for bulk items at no cost.

Dog Duty

Cleaning up after dogs is the legal responsibility of every canine owner walking a dog in the community. Dogs are not permitted off-leash on common property in the City of Gaithersburg.
