Town Hall Meeting on Vandalism Aug. 6

The Kentlands Citizens Assembly plans a Town Hall meeting on Aug. 6, 7 p.m. at the Kentlands Clubhouse to discuss graffiti painted on a fence July 23/24. Gaithersburg Police Department Community Services Officer Dan Lane will give an overview of crime statistics for the city, and the lead investigator for the July 23/24 incident will answer questions.

Register Now for Kentlands/Lakelands 5K

Registration is now open for the 25th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Race and Kids’ Fun Runs, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1. Online registration remains open through race morning; entry fees increase on Aug. 23. The popular chip-timed Run/Walk, limited to the first 1,500 registrants, may sell out. Early online registration is encouraged. The Kids’ Fun Runs are limited to the first 400 registrants. Learn more about the run and register online at kentlandsfoundation.org/annual-5k.

Volunteer for the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K

Course marshals and many other volunteers are needed to ensure that the 5K route is clear and safe from traffic and to help the race, fun runs and post-race festivities run smoothly. All volunteers receive a free t-shirt, a free breakfast on Race Day, and an invitation to the post-event “Thank You!” party. SSL hours are available for students. Fall Lineup Announced for DiVerse Gaithersburg Poetry

The DiVerse Gaithersburg Poetry Reading and Open Mic announces three readings this fall. All readings are hosted by Lucinda Marshall and take place on Sundays, 2 to 4 p.m., upstairs at the Gaithersburg Library.
Sept. 9 brings Steven Leyva, Hiram Larew and Nancy Naomi Carlson. Oct. 14 brings Doritt Carroll, Tara Campbell and Indran Amirthanayagam. Dec. 9 brings Diana Smith Bolton, W. Luther Jett, and El Ethelbert Miller. There is no reading in November.

Contemporary Art from Taiwan at TECRO

“What Do You See? Contemporary Arts From Taiwan” is on exhibit at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) through Nov. 30. Selected by Art Bank Taiwan, the work by three Taiwanese contemporary artists—Tu Pei-shih, Cheng Teng-yuan and Liao Yu-an—brings different perspectives and truths on life in the past, present and future under the influence of globalization. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. TECRO Cultural Center is located at 901 Wind River Lane, Gaithersburg. Admission is free.
