Search for QOHS Principal Underway

Montgomery County Public Schools held staff and community meetings on Thursday, April 5 to gather thoughts on characteristics and experience needed for the new Quince Orchard High School principal. Carole Working, who held the position for 12 years, retired at the end of March, and Carole Goodman is the school’s acting principal through the end of the school year. MCPS expects to identify a new principal in late May, and this person will begin in the position on July 1.

School Safety on Agenda April 24

The Quince Orchard PTSA will host a special presentation on safety and security with a representative from MCPS security, school-based security, the school resource officer and acting principal Ms. Carole Goodman. The meeting will be held in the school’s media center at 6 p.m. on April 24.

RCES Rocks Variety Show Planned

Rachel Carson Elementary School (RCES) students are ready to put on a show. The RCES Rocks 2018 Variety Show stars students in kindergarten through second grade on April 26, 6 p.m. and students in third through fifth grade on April 27. Tickets are $5 per family.

LPMS PTSA Parents Graduating

The Lakelands Park Middle School PTSA needs board members for the 2018-2019 school year. All current board members are parents of eighth-grade students. The LPMS PTSA is responsible for popular events like the Fright Night Dance and Basketball Night. Through financial grants, it supports school priorities. This year, the LPMS PTSA approved $14,110.47 in education grant requests by LPMS teachers and spent another $6,000 on student social events. Current LPMS President Janet Swisher said that volunteering with the PTSA is a great way to get to know the principal, teachers, administrators, security and other parents.

DuFief Addition Delayed

The Montgomery County Council voted to defer funding of the DuFief project on April 17. The project has been delayed for one year with completion in September 2022. The DuFief addition is planned to alleviate Rachel Carson Elementary overcrowding.
