QO’s Jeanne McCormack Named School Psychologist of the Year
Jeanne McCormack, school psychologist at Quince Orchard High School, was recently named the Maryland School Psychologists’ Association 2019 School Psychologist of the Year. During her six years with Montgomery County Public Schools, including work with Fields Road Elementary School, McCormack has been “a leader and pioneer in advocating for the School Psychologist profession within MCPS,” according to a statement from Montgomery County School Psychologists’ Association. “… In 2017, she conceptualized the First Annual Mental Health Fair, which helped raise awareness regarding the innumerable ways in which MCPS School Psychologists promote the academic, social, physical, and emotional well-being of its students.”
Art Show & More Celebrates Talent at Quince Orchard
Creativity will be on display April 24 and 25 at Quince Orchard High School. Art students will exhibit work in a variety of mediums—ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting, mixed media work and digital art. In addition, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) students will be showcasing the use of the 3D printer, gaming students will display some of the games they’ve developed, and horticulture students will display creatively arranged plants.
Opening night is Wednesday, April 24, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The show continues during the school day on Thursday, April 25 and again in the evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday night will include the National Art Honor Society inductions as well as Art Signature Pathway Completion recognition.
Northwest Students Awarded First Place in MCPS Contest
Northwest High School students Karen Boby, Divya Bhat and Mihika Panicker were awarded first place in Montgomery County Public Schools’ third annual United We Learn contest. This year’s theme, Schools of the Future, challenged students to design their dream classroom and think critically about how their physical environment affects their ability to learn.
Youth Lacrosse Day Planned
The QO Lacrosse Youth Day for boys and girls in second through eighth grade is planned for Saturday, April 27, 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Quince Orchard High School coaches and members of the boys and girls lacrosse teams present this skills clinic that will cover throwing, passing, catching, cradling, scooping and dodging. The cost is $30, and all proceeds support the QO LAX program. Email Cammie.email@example.com with questions.
Yard Sale to Raise Funds for QO Marching Band
Don’t miss the Quince Orchard Marching Band Yard Sale on Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. to noon at Quince Orchard High School. You’ll find electronics, furniture, sporting goods, apparel, books, toys and games, baby items, a bake sale and more. Cash only. Donations for the sale will be accepted from 7 to 8 a.m.
NW Green Team Needs Bicycle Donations
Northwest High School Green Team students are organizing a Walk and Bike to School Day on Friday, April 26. To encourage students to walk and bike to school more often, the Green Team would like to give away gently-used bicycles as incentives for students to participate in the event. If you have a bicycle in good shape that you no longer use, please consider donating it to the Green Team to help students become more active and reduce our carbon footprint. The Northwest Prom will be Friday, April 26, 8 to 11 p.m. at the Fillmore in Silver Spring. An After Prom Party is planned at Northwest High School, from 11:30 p.m. April 26 through 4:30 a.m. on April 27. Students will enjoy an all-night food buffet, candy cart, DJ, inflatables, photo booth, games, raffles and more at the party. The Quince Orchard Prom is planned for Friday, May 17 at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, with an After Prom Party at Quince Orchard High School.
