Cinépolis Gaithersburg, 629 Center Point Way, held a VIP reception Nov. 7 for local influencers, including The Town Courier, Montgomery Community Media and The MoCo Show. As a sax musician played in the corner of the new theatre’s plush lobby space, Cinépolis staff circulated with dishes and its bartender served beer, wine and mixed drinks while sports played on numerous TV screens above the bar.
A key takeaway from the reception? This cinema treats everyone like a VIP.
“You don’t have to stress when you come here,” explained General Manager David Johnston of the new-concept cinema. “You get to relax and enjoy the movie and enjoy the experience and be catered to.”
From the lobby space to the halls and theaters, Cinépolis has a Hilton vibe. Its nine theaters are all intimate with plush, reclining brown leather seats. Theater sizes range from 28 to 81 seats.
Cinépolis USA is part of a cineplex chain that began in Mexico. Cinépolis means “City of Cinema.”
Cinépolis Gaithersburg held its grand opening on Sept. 20. The theater is trying to get the word out on what luxury really means.
Johnston said that the most important message he has for patrons is “we’re luxury and it’s a full-service cinema where you get dinner and a movie and everything is brought to you—and you have more than just popcorn and candy, but you have a gourmet selected menu from the chefs.”
Menu items include everything from burgers to Baja bowls. Four types of popcorn include Cheetos-flavored and zebra popcorn, a caramel popcorn with chocolate drizzle.
Patrons purchase a ticket and reserve seats in advance. Theaters open 15 minutes before the screening, and a server shows patrons to their seats. Food orders can be placed before or during the screening; servers can be called by pushing a button on the recliner. Food and drink are delivered directly to seats.
“In terms of the experience that people are getting, that’s what separates us,” Johnston said.
Theaters and lobby space can be rented out for special events, including birthdays, business presentations and holiday parties. Look for movie specials on discount Tuesdays, when tickets are $8.
