City Creates More Parking in QOP

City crews are creating 20 new parking spaces along Winter Walk Drive in QOP.

The city of Gaithersburg has addressed a parking problem in Quince Orchard Park (QOP) by creating more on-street parking along Winter Walk Drive.

There are 20 new parking spaces along the dividing median of Winter Walk Drive in QOP and no parking signs have been posted in front of the new Vistas single-family homes on the same street to prevent residents from parking on both sides of the road.

Gaithersburg public works crews outlined the parking spaces with white paint, ten on each side of the median, on Aug. 18.

Winter Walk Drive resident Ahmed Kilani said he was happy to see the parking changes because, he said, exiting the QOP neighborhood has been difficult at times with cars parked on both sides of the street allowing little room for passing motorists to navigate in between.

The new parking spaces hug the dividing median along Winter Walk Drive.

City officials received similar complaints from other residents, prompting an onsite review of the parking situation in early August.

The QOP Board discussed the city’s recommendations at its Aug. 9 meeting and endorsed the solution for street parking adjacent to the median only.
