Rotary Clubs, City Sponsor Flags for Our Heroes
Every Memorial Day weekend, beginning in 2014, Bohrer Park has been transformed by a patriotic sea of eight-foot flags. The flags honor members of the military, police, firefighters, teachers, coaches, mentors and community leaders. Individuals purchase a flag to honor their hero, and funds raised help local Rotary Clubs give back to the community. This year’s event featured more than 750 flags and was co-sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Montgomery Village, Historic Emory Grove and Gaithersburg, as well as the City of Gaithersburg. Boy Scouts of America Troop 457 camped out to care for the flags all weekend and took part in opening and closing ceremonies. Many other scouts and volunteers helped to create and care for the Field of Honor.
