Work to Start Mid-July for Discovery Park

The Mayor and City Council formally approved the Discovery Park project on June 17, awarding the contract to Patriot Construction from Dunkirk, Maryland. “The tentative start date for the park is mid-July 2019, and work will consist of site work, stormwater management, hardscapes, playgrounds, picnic structures, trail paving and tree plantings,” shared Melanie Brown, project manager for the city.

The 3.36-acre park, located at 601 Orchard Ridge Dr. in the Quince Orchard Park community, will feature passive recreational space, covered picnic structures, playgrounds, walking paths, a gaga pit, four-square court, secret garden, great lawn and butterfly haven.

Patriot Construction “will come back in the spring of 2020 to complete the installation of the balance of the plant material,” Brown noted. New plantings will consist of 186 trees, 382 shrubs, 4,670 perennials and grasses, and 10,953 bulbs. The park is anticipated to open in spring 2020.
