Kentlands dentist Dr. Karl Lee retired on Oct. 1, leaving his 211 Market St. West practice in the hands of Dr. Ernest Ponraj and longtime practice manager Melissa Chen. In a statement, Dr. Lee said that he is looking forward to his next adventure, returning to the tennis court where he is a certified USPTA tennis instructor. “I have been an assistant tennis instructor under Marna Katzel, our head tennis pro here in the Kentlands,” he explained. “We have started a program called Wounded Warrior Tennis, to teach this sport to our wounded veterans.”
After originally opening his practice on Muddy Branch Road, Dr. Lee moved it to Kentlands in 2000 and has treasured the relationships he has formed here. “Many of my patients have grown with the practice as the practice has matured,” he said. “We have seen significant positive changes in our neighborhood through that time. I have always loved having a local dental office, one that has served the needs of the community and forged strong bonds of friendship.”
With his son now off to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, Dr. Lee said he felt the time was right for a change. He appreciates his good fortune in finding Dr. Ernest Ponraj to purchase his practice “and retain its integrity and vision, having the commitment to provide excellent dental care in a nurturing environment.”
Originally from the Silver Spring area, Dr. Ponraj is a 2008 graduate of Loma Linda School of Dentistry. Melissa Chen has been with Dr. Lee’s practice for more than eight years and will continue as practice manager and assistant.
