With the roaring success of the Manhattan Short Film Festival at Kentlands Stadium 10 and the demand for more challenging adult films, it appears the management is getting the message: There is an audience for fine films in Kentlands. Recently, “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” fit that category with its very “indie” tone. This was not a mindless piece of cinema.
“Mao’s Last Dancer” also came to the theatre in recent weeks, and a recent showing drew several comments like, “I hope they bring more films like this to the Kentlands.”
Management indicates that it’s hearing the public and is making every attempt to broaden its scope to include more fine films for a Kentlands audience. “If you show them, they will come,” might hold true. It’s up to theatre patrons to show they want this kind of film.
