Kentlands Acoustic Jam (KAJ) has been selected to perform at the National Cherry Blossom Festival this year, April 9, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the ANA Stage at the Tidal Basin. “We have a variety of genres and styles in our music,” shared Mike Rocke, 12-string guitar and vocals, “and the Cherry Blossom Festival is just the place to share it.”
Kentlands Acoustic Jam is a local favorite from Gaithersburg, Maryland. KAJ is structured under the Kentlands Community Foundation and supports community events, including Rockville Science Day, local businesses, City of Gaithersburg, and the National Park Service. Their music features family-friendly covers from classic Americana acoustic rock, as well as specialty concerts including Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest and others.
“The band has worked hard to perfect our public performances and bring in diverse talent,” explained Markham Luke, founding member. “Participating in this nationally recognized event is a great thing for Kentlands Acoustic Jam and also for the Kentlands as a neighborhood,” he continued, further explaining that the band raises public awareness of the community.
Bruce Hendrickson, banjo, expressed a simpler message: “Playing with the Jam is having fun with friends as we enjoy learning new songs and performing in public.”
