Rachel Carson Elementary School (RCES) parents and students attended a meet and greet with their new principal, Mrs. Deneise Hammond, at the Kentlands Clubhouse on Monday evening, July 10. Hammond was received by some of her new students and discussed some of the ideas she has moving forward with the school.

Her main goal is to maintain strong communication between herself and the RCES community.  She urged parents to not only give her feedback on things they felt could be improved at the school, but also on things they did not want to see changed.  Hammond recognized that RCES is a terrific school and wants to continue everything that has made the school so successful. Hammond also emphasized the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and is excited to share her background in microbiology and chemistry with her new school.

Most recently, Hammond was principal intern at Fox Chapel Elementary in Germantown. Prior to this, she was assistant principal at Walter Wims Elementary School in Clarksburg.
