Same Suspect in SunTrust Bank Robberies
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate three robberies of a SunTrust Bank located inside the Safeway grocery store at 14939 Shady Grove Road in Rockville that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect. The suspect robbed the bank on three Sundays this winter—Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and March 3. On each occasion, the suspect approached a teller and passed a note demanding cash. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the bank.
Anyone with information about the suspect or these bank robberies is asked to contact the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5100. A man was flagged down at Dufief Mill Road and Amberlea Farm Drive on March 6 around midnight by a woman who said that she needed a ride. The suspect got into the car and pressed an object against the drivers head and demanded to be driven to Washington, D.C. She then ordered the owner out of his own car. A few minutes later an on-duty Montgomery County police officer spotted the vehicle at Route 28 and Muddy Branch Road. A pursuit started and eventually the suspect crashed into some trees on the Clara Barton Parkway near Lock 7. Awa Rahman, 19, of Alexandria was arrested.
