Electric Shopping Cart Stolen, Suspect Injured
Most have seen the electric shopping carts that disabled and elderly people use in grocery stores. On the afternoon of March
29, someone stole the electric cart belonging to the Giant Store at 229 Kentlands Boulevard. Gaithersburg police officers were called to the store by management and began a search of the area for the cart.
Officers located the cart about six blocks away on a basketball court near Main Street and Golden Ash Way.
When they approached the court, they spotted a juvenile male whom they suspected was the culprit. Officer Dan Lane, a spokesperson for the city police, said that during the investigation a scuffle broke out and the juvenile suffered an abrasion to his forehead and had to be treated at a nearby hospital.
The case is still under investigation and no charges have been placed.
