Burtons Grill & Bar Coming to Market Square

Burtons Grill & Bar is anticipated to open in Kentlands Market Square during the fourth quarter of 2020, according to Kimco, owners of the center. Burtons will occupy a 5,000-square foot corner space on the paseo and feature a scratch kitchen that is known for accommodating food allergies.

Panda Programmer Open on Main Street

Founded by Kentlands resident Will Corbin five years ago, Panda Programmer (AKA “Coding Club”) is opening a new classroom space at 216 Main St., Suite 200. Beginning in December, classes will be offered on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m.

The curriculum for both Panda Programmer and Coding Club is based on Scratch, an educational programming platform created by MIT. Once students are proficient in Scratch, they may extend their studies in the areas of Robotics, Python and JavaScript. Sunday morning classes are slated to begin in January 2020.

Panda Programmer offers after-school programs at more than 30 MCPS elementary schools. Coding Club teaches computer science as well to middle school students.

Meet the Sugar Plum Fairy

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre (MBT) will host the Sugar Plum Ballet Tea Party on Dec. 21 with seatings at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre, 220 Perry Parkway. Children can meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and some of the characters from the Kingdom of Sweets and take a ballet class with the ballet characters, make a craft and enjoy a sweet treat and snacks. Tickets are $20 per child; adults admitted free.
