MBT Student Selected for Youth American Grand Prix Finals

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre and Academy student Samantha Stillwell was chosen to participate in the world’s largest student ballet scholarship competition, the Youth America Grand Prix finals in New York City this month. Approximately 1,500 finalists will perform for directors and representatives of the world’s leading dance institutions, and more than $500,00 in scholarships will be awarded.

Acoustic Open Mic Now at Grape Escape

After a long run at Agrodolce in Germantown, which recently closed, Acoustic Open Mic led by musician Pete Looney has moved to Grape Escape in Kentlands Square. It debuted on Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m.—and organizers hope to make Acoustic Open Mic a weekly event.

Flower Power on Main Street

Kentlands Flowers & Bows, 364 Main St., has Flower Bar Workshops planned each month through the end of the year. The “Supporting Local Growers” workshop on June 6, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., will show you how to design your own relaxed floral arrangement with locally grown blooms like mint, tansy and more. Cinco de Mayo Coming to Kentlands

By late winter, a new restaurant in the former Healthy Back Store space across Center Point Way from the movie theater, should be heating things up. Cinco de Mayo owner Antonio Ulloa said he chose the corner spot for its high visibility and large outdoor patio seating area that will accommodate 12 tables. The Kentlands Market Square restaurant will be Cinco de Mayo’s sixth location. Other restaurants are located in Martinsburg, Westminster, Columbia, Middletown and—currently in soft opening phase—Urbana. The extensive menu features family recipes.

New Exhibit at Artists on Market

The Artists on Market gallery, 201 Market St. West in Kentlands Market Square, opens a new exhibit in May, entitled “A Gift of Art.” Plan to attend the family-friendly reception on Sunday, May 5, 2 to 5 p.m., and meet local artist members and creators of hand-crafted jewelry, wearables, woodcrafts, glass and more. You’ll also find art activity stations with make-and-take crafts for children. Artists on Market gallery hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
