Putting Mead Back on the Map
For millennia, mead was enjoyed by all—royalty, laborers, merchants, paupers and pirates. According to Clear Skies Mead, coming soon to 325 Main St., “mead is possibly the oldest fermented beverage we humans have enjoyed.” Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with water and a variety of additional ingredients, including fruits, spices, grains or hops. Clear Skies’ goal is “to bring mead out of the historical shadows into the modern era.”
Clear Skies Mead Executive Vice President Yancy Bodenstein reported that demolition is nearly complete and construction is well underway. “We’re starting to gather the necessary permits to begin putting up drywall and finalizing the fermentation space in the basement. Once the fermentation space is completed, we are hoping to get state and county approval (we’ve got
federal approval!) to use and occupy the space so we can start fermenting our first batches,” he noted.
Clear Skies Mead plans a soft opening toward the end of the year, and will begin hiring experienced bartenders and managers by the end of October. Resumes can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
