Suspect Accused of Spraying Semen on Woman

Michael Edwards Jr. is charged with second degree assault.

Gaithersburg police have arrested a 28-year-old Gaithersburg man who is suspected of spraying human semen on a woman standing in line at a Giant grocery store two weeks ago.

Michael Wayne Edwards Jr. of Downing Street was charged with second degree assault on July 29, according to police.

Police said the incident happened on July 15 at the Giant grocery store located at 842 Muddy Branch Road.

Police said the woman was standing in line when she observed an unknown man staring at her. According to police, the man walked closely behind the victim and sprayed a liquid substance onto her back that was later determined to be semen. Police report the suspect drove away in a gray-colored vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, Edwards was developed as a suspect. Chief Mark Sroka, who said he has never seen a case like this in his law enforcement career, said Edwards was identified on the store’s security cameras, and the suspect used his Giant bonus card to make a purchase which helped police track him down.

After the suspect’s arrest and interview, police said they learned there may be additional unidentified victims. At press time, Sroka said no new victims had come forward. If you believe you have been a victim of such a crime, call Gaithersburg Detective Pat Word at 301.258.6400.

At press time, The Town Courier learned that Montgomery County police have charged Edwards with second degree assault for a similar incident that occurred at the Michaels store in Kentlands on November 19, 2009.
