Memories Made at Summer Festival

There’s nothing like a neighborhood Fourth of July parade: kids’ bicycles, scooters and wagons decked out in red, white and blue ribbons; parents pushing strollers decorated for the occasion and waving small American flags.

It’s something those of us fortunate enough to grow up in a close-knit community remember all of our lives—how much fun it was to ride our bikes in the Fourth of July parade.

Year after year near July 4, residents of Quince Orchard Park gather at the clubhouse to parade down Highland Ridge Avenue and then loop back along Winter Walk Drive. Gaithersburg’s mayor and city officials participate. Kids on bikes try to beat each other back to the clubhouse where a barbecue and fun await.

Event organizer and Board President Troy Kennedy keeps it all running. He and Grounds Committee Chair Jenny Volk are also in charge of grilling, preparing countless hamburgers and hotdogs with all of the fixings.

This year Kennedy again arranged for Great Kids Events to bring the party. Inflatables included Joust, Mega Rally, a pirate ship and an obstacle course. Families enjoyed other activities like face painting, glitter tattoos and balloon twisting. Snow cones and cotton candy made the afternoon sweeter.

MedImmune Plans Outdoor Sports Facility

Representatives of MedImmune will be at the July 10 Board meeting to discuss the construction of their new outdoor sports and recreation facility on Lot 7, adjacent to the Quince Orchard Park community. The presentation starts at 7 p.m., and it will be followed by a question and answer period.

Time for Grub Control

Now is a good time to do grub control. If you have questions, please attend the next Lawn Maintenance Seminar with Matt Owens of Potomac Garden Center. This is scheduled for July 10, 6 p.m. at the QOP Clubhouse.

Tot Lot Surfacing Planned for July

To improve the quality of the tot lot surfacing materials, Potomac Garden Center will install a certified wood carpet instead of wood chips on the tot lots. This work will be completed in July.

Home Inspection Tips

Annual home inspections are underway. Please take an objective look at your home and yard using QOP’s Home Inspection Checklist. You can find this on our website,, beneath the “ACC Information” tab.

If you receive a letter from The Management Group Associates (TMGA), please respond. You can tell us that the issue has been fixed; ask for more time to resolve the issue, dispute the issue, resulting in a reinspection; or request an appeal before the Board of Directors.

Please don’t put the letter aside without responding. Additional letters will be sent if TMGA doesn’t hear from you, and fines may be assessed after a period of time. Third and fourth maintenance notices will be mailed in neon envelopes.

TMGA is happy to answer any questions. You can email or call 301.948.6666.

Fitness Room Getting a Workout

The good news is that the new QOP Fitness Room is getting a workout! But with this comes wear-and-tear on equipment. Please let the management company know if equipment is not functioning correctly. Don’t try to fix it yourself. You can call 301.948.6666 and ask to speak to Ruchita Patel, Alex Deering or Marylou Bono. They will schedule a repair as soon as possible.

Also, please help us keep the Fitness Room clean and safe for the QOP community. You can let the Board and TMGA know of any Fitness Room issues by filling out a complaint form, available in the Fitness Room and also found on the QOP website,

Dispose of Trash and Recycling

Trash is collected on Tuesday and Friday and must be placed in lidded trash cans. If left for collection in bags only, trash is ripped open by animals and strewn throughout the community. Continued use of bags may result in fines.

Recycling is picked up on Fridays. Containers with lids are now available from the City of Gaithersburg. Please contact the city at 301.258.6370 to have a lidded bin delivered and the old one picked up.

Please remember that trash cans and recycle bins must be stored out of sight on non-pickup days.

The City of Gaithersburg offers bulk trash pickup (furniture, appliances, mattresses, etc.) on the first recycling day of the month. The next bulk trash pickup is Friday, July 6. The City of Gaithersburg and Potomac Disposal (301.294.9700) both offer collection services for bulk items at no cost.

Secure Your Recyclables

Did you know that you can request an 18-gallon recycle bin with a lid from the City of Gaithersburg? The city offers detachable lids for the 18-gallon bins. You can request one by emailing, or calling the city’s Public Works at 301.258.6370.

If your recycling bin or 65-gallon cart is broken, visit to request a new one.

Do Your Dog Duty

Cleaning up after dogs is the legal responsibility of every canine owner walking a dog in the community. Dogs are not permitted off-leash on common property in the City of Gaithersburg.
