Year Capped by Annual Meeting

Lara Adhami, Board secretary, was re-elected for a second two-year term at the May 14 Annual Meeting. Adhami, who has been active in school- and youth-related issues and activities that affect QOP residents, said that she looks forward to continuing her work on social outreach to build a strong community.

Adhami noted that the past year saw extensive tree work as community and city worked to cull dead and dying ash trees. Drainage was also an issue, and work included the Pond 2 dredging project that was recently completed.

Board President Troy Kennedy spoke about the financial good health of the community and the Board’s role as financial stewards.

Almost 100 percent of the community’s 504 homes have accounts in good standing. The reserve study was updated this year, and the reserve fund—necessary for community upkeep—is funded at 100 percent.

QOP Pool Opens May 25

The Quince Orchard Park pool is almost ready to welcome residents back for the 2019 pool season. Are you ready with a valid 2019 pool pass?

If you already have a barcoded pass and your information (emergency contacts, etc.) has not changed since last summer, you do not need to apply again. Your pool pass will be reactivated for the 2019 swim season.

You do need to submit a pool pass application if any of the following applies to you:

  • You live in Quince Orchard Park but do not own your residence.
  • You were not previously issued a barcoded pool pass or have lost your pass.
  • You would like to add or remove an individual from your membership.
  • Your child is now 5 years of age and needs a pool pass.
  • You need to authorize your child to visit the pool without an adult if he/she is between the ages of 13-17 (you don’t need to submit an application if you have already authorized this).
  • You need to replace a lost pass ($10 fee/pass).
  • You need to replace a pass on which the barcode has faded or rubbed off (no charge).

The pool will open on Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m. Through the last day of school, June 14, pool hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on school days and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For questions, contact TMGA at or 301.948.6666 x137.

Video Footage and Access Information Used to Maintain Security

Individuals have been creating nuisances and damaging property in the community. The QOP Clubhouse has been a particular target. Stones were recently discovered in the QOP pool.
Video footage and clubhouse access information has led to identification of unaccompanied teens using sports equipment in the social hall and damaging the furniture. The management company has contacted their parents.

If you see anyone damaging property or otherwise creating a nuisance in Quince Orchard Park, please contact Community Manager Ruchita Patel at and/or call the police. The Board is increasing security in and around the clubhouse.

The Lowdown on Litter

Do you notice more litter in the community on recycling Fridays, especially on windy days? If you do, you’re not alone. Some QOP streets are veritable wind tunnels, and an empty Amazon box can wind up in a far-off neighbor’s yard.

Please secure your recyclables by making sure that the top is closed on your 65-gallon cart and using a lid for your 18-gallon bin. Placing a large rock on top of the cart or bin also helps on windy days.

Do you need a lid for your recycling bin? The City of Gaithersburg offers detachable lids for the 18-gallon bins. You can request one by emailing or calling the city’s Public Works at 301.258.6370.

And remember to recycle right. Did you know that pizza boxes; plastic bags, film or wrap; Styrofoam and polystyrene; and empty bottles of motor oil, antifreeze or pesticides are all not recyclable? If you add these to your recycling pickup, the contents of your recycling bin or cart will be left at the curb.

Also, please remember to rinse or clean all cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars, and aluminum foil. Corrugated cardboard must be flattened. For a complete list of recyclables, visit

And the Buttinsky

Warmer weather brings welcome time outdoors. But with the advent of spring, flowers are not the only thing blooming in Quince Orchard Park. A less fragrant growth is cigarette butts suddenly piling up on neighborhood walkways and streets, common areas and tot lots. Children and butts don’t mix, and in dryer weather, these cigarette butts may become a fire hazard.

Annual Inspections Are Underway

Quince Orchard Park inspects all homes annually for maintenance or covenants issues that need to be corrected. The purpose of this inspection is to maintain the curb appeal of the community and increase the value of your home.

What do we look for?

Generally, we look for items that stand out as needing maintenance, such as rotted trim, fading or missing shutters, driveways in need of repair. We also look for items that don’t comply with the Association’s legal documents or Design Guidelines. Examples of this include incorrect paint colors or unapproved exterior modifications.

We recommend that all homeowners take an objective look at their home each year using the Home Inspection Checklist found on the QOP website. So far this spring we have cited a number of homeowners for turf weeds. Please inspect your lawn and treat it for weeds,
especially clover and dandelion.

Management Mentions

Dispose of Trash and Recycling

Trash is collected on Tuesday and Friday and must be placed in lidded trash cans. If left for collection in bags only, trash is ripped open by animals and strewn throughout the community. Continued use of bags may result in fines.

Recycling is picked up on Fridays.

Containers with lids are now available from the City of Gaithersburg. Please contact the city at 301.258.6370 to have a lidded bin delivered and the old one picked up. Please remember that trash cans and recycle bins must be stored out of sight on non-pickup days.

The City of Gaithersburg offers bulk trash pickup (furniture, appliances, mattresses, etc.) on the first recycling day of the month. The next bulk trash pickup is Friday, June 7. The City of Gaithersburg and Potomac Disposal (301.294.9700) both offer collection services for bulk items at no cost.

Do Your Dog Duty

Cleaning up after dogs is the legal responsibility of every canine owner walking a dog in the community. Dogs are not permitted off-leash on common property in the City of Gaithersburg.
