The holiday season has arrived at the Urbana Regional Library. It’s always a frantic time, but why not gather the family and kick off your celebrations by joining your neighbors for some festive fun? Come on out to the Urbana Regional Library for our annual Joyful Jingles holiday open house. All weekend long on Dec. 6 and 7, stop by to enjoy hot apple cider, performances by local musicians and dancers, and crafts with the kids. This year, we’ll host the Monocacy Valley Montessori Public Charter School Chorus, Urbana Dance and Urbana High School Quartet and Guitar Ensemble among many others.
There will be great fun for the whole family — kids can create seasonal crafts in the Children’s Department, parents can relax to the beautiful sounds of St. Peter’s Youth Bell Choir, and everyone can enjoy an origami class on the second floor. On Sunday, we’ll even have the R.E.A.D. therapy dogs here so little ones can practice their reading (and, you never know how those adorable critters will come dressed!). Haven’t taken a holiday picture with the family yet? Come to our DIY photo booth and pose for a fun, funny photo to share with everyone. We’ll provide the backdrop and props, you provide the loved ones. Oh, and don’t forget to take a moment to pose with our resident elf as well as a certain famous snow man who will also be appearing at the event!
As if that weren’t enough, enter your candy creations into our annual Gingerbread House Contest. There are 5 categories for competition: Grades K-6, Grades 7-12, Adult, Family and Staff. Gingerbread houses should be able to sit unaided on the top of a library bookshelf and will be displayed all month as they arrive at the library. All decorations are welcome, but please do not use anything of value that you would be disappointed to lose. Pick up your entry form at the Children’s Reference desk starting Dec. 1.
The Urbana Regional Library staff would like to wish you a happy and healthy holiday season! For a complete schedule of Joyful Jingles events, contact the library at 301.600.7000 or on the web at www.fcpl.org.
