Mission of Mercy Golf Classic

On June 15, Holly Hills Country Club in Ijamsville hosts the Mission of Mercy Golf Classic. The event raises funds for Mission of Mercy, a nonprofit Christian organization that provides free healthcare, dental care and prescriptions to the Frederick County needy community through a mobile unit. Registration for the golf event begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12 noon. The day ends with a Surf ‘n’ Turf dinner, awards and a short program. To register, go to

Urbana Music Festival

The 7th Annual Urbana Music Festival is slated for June 20 from 2-6 p.m., featuring the street jazz and old-time country blues band Bumper Jacksons (2-3:30 p.m.) and the rock and roll and classic blues band Fast Eddie and the Slowpokes (4-5:30 p.m.). The music festival, which will be held at the Urbana Regional Library, will also have pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, Zumba and karate demos. For more information, call 301.600.7000.

Painted Butterfly Gala and Auction

On Jan. 31, 2013, in a Middletown, Md. house fire, Jack and Angela Lillard lost two of their four children — 6-year-old Sophie and 3-year-old Madigan. On June 14, an event is being held in their honor, dubbed “Sophie & Madigan’s Painted Butterfly Gala and Silent Auction.” The event includes decorated wooden butterflies on exhibit for auction, painted by local children, families, organizations, businesses — as well as light fare and music by Dapper DJ. Event held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Surreybrooke Garden Center and costs $3 per person or $10 per family. All funds go towards the memory of Sophie and Madigan, used to create local playgrounds. National Donut Day

Ledo Pizza Gives to Local Cancer Patient

Frederick resident Caitlyn Crawford, 22, has stage four colon cancer and was forced to give up her full time job and studies at Frederick Community College while undergoing intense chemotherapy. A group of local women who dubbed themselves “Caitlyn’s Crushin’ Cancer Crusaders,” are working hard to help Crawford. Urbana’s Ledo Pizza is the first fundraiser, held Thursday, June 18. Ledo’s is offering a portion of their proceeds all day to Crawford — on both eat-in and take-out orders. For more information on Crawford, go to

Rotary Car Show

On Tuesday, June 16, the Urbana Senior Center hosts a discussion about Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), what it is, what causes it, how it can be managed and more. Easels in Frederick

The 5th annual Easels in Frederick hosts award-winning artists from 19 states, including California and Oregon, to paint Frederick County’s scenic town and rural locations in plein-air (open air). On June 19-20 the grand exhibition features more than 100 plein-air paintings of Frederick County at the William Talley Recreation Center in downtown Frederick. On June 19, the event runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. ($50) and on June 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. (free event). Artists compete for cash prizes totaling $13,000. Also on June 20, a two-hour Quick Draw Contest is open to artists from age 8 and up of all skill levels. The contest begins at 9:30 a.m. with a youth quick draw starting at 11:45 a.m. All the paintings will be judged and available for sale at Memorial Park at the corner of Bentz and Second Street. Donut Fundraiser for St. Ignatius Catholic Church

On June 2, Urbana’s Baskin Robbins/Dunkin’ Donuts hosts a fundraiser featuring staff from St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ijamsville. Father Mike and the deacons from St. Ignatius scoop ice cream from 4 to 9 pm. to benefit the charity Frederick 48 (48 Hours to Meet The Need).
