It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s Frederick County in July. Here are a few ways to get out and about this month:

Great Frederick Float

Join Downtown Frederick Partnership July 3, 5 – 9 p.m. for the third annual Great Frederick Float featuring a boat parade in Carroll Creek; live entertainment and red, white and blue activities for the family; and the July First Saturday — A Great American Main Street, featuring old-fashioned game stations throughout downtown.

Frederick’s 4th

Frederick’s 4th is celebrating 27 years as Frederick’s premier 4th of July event this year. It’s is largest in Frederick County, attracting over 70,000 annually to Baker Park in downtown Frederick, offering fun, music and the American tradition for all. Festivities run 12 – 9 p.m.

Frederick Camera Clique Juried Exhibit Opening at FCC

Take in the regions juried artwork at the opening reception for the regional juried exhibit July 10 from, 5 – 7 p.m. at Frederick Community College. The competition runs through September 1.

The community is invited to the opening where prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in two categories: color and monochrome photography. In addition, a $100 prize for best-in-show will be awarded. Entries were not required to address a defined theme. Each photo was judged on its own merit.

The Frederick Camera Clique’s summer show is open to entries from the public as well as the club’s members. There was no limit to the number of entries per person and no limit to the number of pieces per person that could be juried into the show. The contents of the show were determined by the jury’s decisions.

International photographer Valentin Casarsa served as exhibition judge. He is an accomplished agency and freelance photographer from Italy and Slovenia. Casarsa has also served as content administrator for iStockphoto.com and art director at iStockphoto events. The company sponsored his visit to Frederick to judge the exhibit and conduct workshops with the club.

The Frederick Camera Clique was created by and for photographers of all kinds and is open to members at all levels of expertise. Members share knowledge with each other and sponsor presentations from experts in the field at the club’s monthly meetings.

Carnival and a Car Show

Check out the Classic Car Show July 18, 12 – 4 p.m., which will kick off the annual Urbana Volunteer Fire Department carnival again this year at the fairgrounds. Then the weeklong carnival runs July 19 – 24 with midway games and rides, buffet dinners and plenty of carnival fare and live music nightly. More information: www.urbanavfd.org.
