It was finally announced in late November that some vendor decisions have been made for the property at the corner of Fingerboard Road and Rte. 355, the former location of the Cracked Claw/Peter Pan Inn. Construction work is expected to start in January on a Burger King restaurant and a Philly Pretzel Factory location. According to Rand Weinberg, an attorney representing the owners of the site, they are working to create a safe, well-lit complex that will fit into the neighborhood. “We have gotten positive feedback for these merchants,” said Weinberg. “We have tried for several other vendors over the years, including Panera and Chipotle Grill, but they turned us down saying there weren’t enough people living in Urbana. Obviously the new housing helps, but we’re not there yet.”

The design of the Silk Mill Restaurant, which opens next spring, is almost complete, according to sales director Tara Stelley-Franklin. “We have started booking events,” Stelley-Franklin said, “and we are all pretty excited about what is to come!” The Silk Mill will be in the historic Landon House at 3401 Urbana Pike, and is booking now for weddings and corporate or private special events.
