Join the community celebration on Saturday, June 20, at the Urbana Regional Library’s seventh annual Urbana Music Festival and Bistro. This event has grown and changed since its successful start in 2009 and returns on June 20 from 2-6 p.m. The festival food bistro area with seating is back for attendees and families to gather and listen to live music while enjoying award-winning food from several area food trucks and vendors.
Frederick County Public Libraries’ Summer of Wonder Reading Program will be in high gear, but it won’t be too late to sign up the day of the festival. Library representatives will assist families with registration. All attendees will have the opportunity to spend time visiting inside the library as well as outside in our Bookmobile. The festival is underwritten by contributors including the C. Burr Artz Trust, Natelli Communities, Living Grace Lutheran Church, Community Association Services, Inc. and Friends of the Urbana Regional Library.
“We are delighted to host the celebration at the Urbana Regional Library,” said Darrell Batson, director of Frederick County Public Libraries. “We are thankful for our corporate partners who make these events possible at no cost to the attendee or the taxpayer,” he said.
Attractions throughout the day include free pony rides, a petting zoo, moon bounce, inflatable slide and obstacle course, Karate and Zumba demonstrations, and a superhero photo booth. Meet Frederick Key’s mascot Keyote, Max the Bunny (of Max & Ruby), Clifford the Big Red Dog and Sneaks the Cat. Enjoy live music and fare from food trucks including Oohdatchicken, Feelin’Crabby?, Pinzano’s Pizza and Rita’s Italian Ice.
Music event schedule is as follows:
Recognized as DC’s “Best Traditional Folk Band” at the 2013 Washington Area Music Awards, the Bumper Jacksons are ready to pounce onto the national scene. Bumper Jacksons are a big, fat party. Hot and sweet, their early jazz and country repertoire paints America’s story from New Orleans’ brothels to Appalachian hollers. Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from forgotten 78’s, the Bumper Jacksons boldly and elegantly balance paying homage to the traditions while fashioning their own unique, DIY style.
Fast Eddie & The Slowpokes
Fast Eddie & The Slowpokes are guaranteed to get you up on your feet. The Slowpokes playlist is inspired by classic blues material from Chicago to West Coast Swing, Motown to Muscle Shoals, and all the rock n’ roll in between. Fast Eddie & The Slowpokes have performed throughout the D.C. region, from Senate Caucus rooms to festivals to roadhouses. They have shared the stage with Victor Wainwright (2013 Pinetop Perkins Award Winner) and The Nighthawks. They won the 2012 DC Blues Society Battle of the Bands and represented the DC Blues Society at 2013 The International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
